I was cleaning out our garage and found a box of old records, combination of my Dad's and my brother's. Some real memories in there. Too bad they weren't preserved better.

Then I found a little carrying case, opened it up and 8-Track tapes! I remembered a lot of trips in the car and how everyone just accepted that slow fade, then the loud clunk of the channel changing, then the fade back into the song where you left off. It was brutal

Don't forget about the standard match book wedged under the left corner so it wouldn't drag.

I forgot about that very true technical advancement

The first two sentences of this song make me feel more than an hour of current top hits.

Old Soul Train footage starting about 14 seconds in

I was 14 just on the cusp of teenage manhood. Early experiments with marijuana, large-collared garishly patterned silk shirts and high heeled shoes. Shitting you, I am not.

    This was me

I read that headline and rolled my eyes... I mean I love vinyl, it has great sound and it's so damn cool so I can understand it still being popular... not to mention it was the medium during the greatest eras of music. But I grew up with cassettes and have zero nostalgia for it. Do audio experts feel that it's superior to any other medium of the last 60 years?!? Is it 100% a hipster thing or is there some merit to cassette?

I will say this though... my first car was a 1989 Mazda 626. Absolute piece of total shit.... but when I found one of these things at Radioshack and was able to play my mp3 player full of mp3's I'd ripped off Napster and Limewire through my car cassette player, I thought that was the pinnacle of technology Still seems like magic, I have no idea how it works at all.

To me, all cassettes had the same it's there audio sound. Nothing high end where you could distinguish delicate midrange sounds or crystal clear treble notes...just sound.

Incidentally, since my jaw got screwed up I would get high pitched tinnitus tones and now I hear a constant blank hiss exactly like after the song stops on a cassette tape

I remember the smell of this stuff and how it used to pick up images of comics from the newspaper.
