Nazi . . . or not so much?
Kathy Griffin seems to have screwed up in a big way on Tuesday, posting a picture of people that she claimed were kids from Covington Catholic HS — the Kentucky school involved in the controversial confrontation with a protester in DC over the weekend — playing basketball.
“Covington’s finest throwing up the new nazi sign,” wrote Griffin, apparently referring to the way that some players were holding their thumb and pointer fingers together, with the other three fingers up in the air.
Apparently, Griffin doesn’t get to too many NBA games.
She appears to have mistaken the “OK” sign — said by some to be a covert far-right symbol — with the standard celebration after scoring a three-pointer.
She quickly deleted the tweet and didn’t mention it again. Griffin told us, “MSNBC’s Chris Hayes was kind enough to reply and correct me, so I deleted the tweet.”
The school has been in the headlines since students were accused of accosting a protester, only for more video to emerge that appears to vindicate them.
