"A “large amount” of fireworks stored at a home in Ontario ignited and set off a booming explosion Tuesday afternoon, officials said, rattling nearby residents and sending billowing smoke into the air that could be seen from miles away.
The blast around 12:30 p.m. sent up a huge fireball, sending up a towering column of smoke that could be seen in cities as far away as Anaheim and Riverside. Several smaller explosions could be heard after the initial blast.
One home where the explosion occurred appeared to have been destroyed, according to reports from the scene. The property was obscured in smoke after the blast, with fireworks still igniting as firefighters tried to douse the smoldering ruin.
Other homes nearby were damaged. There were no immediate reports of injuries, or what caused the blast.
The Ontario Fire Department said the explosion occurred near the area of San Antonio Avenue and Maple Street."
