She's got a lot of pics on there from her trips to the Philippines and visiting her sister+ nephew that are irreplacable, she turned about 6 shades of red when she told me there may be some "other" pics on there.

I told her, so.... you're trying to tell me not to post them on Facebook?

I'll tell you what, It's a hell of an incentive to try and recover the drive! I didn't even have the means to access a laptop IDE drive, I had to go out to the east side of town and pick up a 2.5 to 3.5 adapter cable then plug it into my usb enclosure. Total cost $10. The alternative was a $40 2.5 enclosure.

OK guys I have to go, I am wipped out. Had a very long day, longer than it should have been. I'll try to get back on this weekend though.

No clue, but she's got a history of unsafe surfing habits, (56 now) I was surprised that her moms computer that she brought over last night wasn't bad. Issue was shutting down and had a "Antispyware Doctor" issue, That was a persistent rogue spyware app, but before I could remove it I needed to fix the shutdown issue.

I opened it up (Compaq from the late 90's BTW, yea, moms a cheap ass) and found 12+ years of dusty cat hair clogging everything. All the power supply vents were clogged, the back vent, couldn't hardly recognize the vid card or memory and the CPU fan was just a brown blob. Pulled the CPU fan off and the heatsink was absolutely packed. All together I bet I vacuumed,blew, brushed and tweezed about a softballs worth of crap out of it.

Yea, all that for a 1.1ghz/256ram antique. 20 gig hard drive had less than 200 MB free on it too.
I told her I'll get it running but I recommend pulling her files off and upgrading.
