Queensryche's not hair metal.

Music was better when ugly people were allowed to make it.
oh gawd here it comes .....formed in 1982 and considered 'hair' metal before some the the bigs like Whitesnake and Def Leppard.
I can't help that they're talented and non-glam, they are included in the definition

Nope. If you really listen to their music, they're nothing like the other bands on this list. They don't fit the genre and they never have. They're a closer brethren to the Thrash metal bands although they don't fit in that genre either.
They opened for Metallica on Metallica's Justice tour and their own Mindcrime tour back in the late 80s. Hair metal bands couldn't come close to a Metallica gig. I saw that show twice, both times through Philadelphia. And I saw Q on their Empire tour when Alice in Chains just broke out and opened up for them.

I just read the list of top 20 hair metal/ glam bands, didn't come here for an opinion-based argument

The lists are ALWAYS RIGHT!
and since I'm trying desperately to forget about every song/band that is/will be listed in this thread except Queensryche...let me have my moment
What? Some of the hair bands actually had good songs. Not many, but there are some.
And no, any band that can put out masterpieces like Rage For Order and Operation Mindcrime, that's not hair metal at all. If you sit down and really listen to hair metal bands, there's a common thread that persists in their music. That thread doesn't exist in Queensryche's music. It never has. They could have very easily fallen into that trap, but they intentionally steered their music in another direction.
Listen to Queensryche all you want. They're a good band, or at least they used to be. You don't need a thread to enjoy it.

I've always considered Judas Priest and Iron Maiden as hair metal bands...some will argue that point too.
as yes, I will listen to Queensryche all I want, thank you!
Priest and Maiden are definitely NOT hair bands. Priest came close with that piece of shit Turbo, but they pulled back. Interesting to note that Whitesnake was not always a hair metal band. They were originally blues rock. But Coverdale saw an opening to greater money and exposure and he took it.
