    Event A Moment In Time...

I was thinking the other night (it's true..) that this generation witnessed something amazing.

On Jan 1/2000...the year changed, the decade changed, the century changed and we entered a new millennium.

It was too bad that most of the world was focused on the Y2K scare, fearing that computers wouldn't work/would reset/would blow up etc...

It was one moment in time, that 900 years of future generations will not witness.

    I feel special

If they didn't make the Mayan calendar weigh 30 tons and keep dropping the facking thing....the world would have ended a few times before now.

I remember back then thinking it was pretty profound to see the old odometer roll over from 1999 to 2000.

For Y2K I was forbidden to take vacation between December 25th and January 1st. I had to go in bright and early on the 1st and ensure the computer systems were working.

A full day's pay for 2 hours of running around an office of 250 empty desks/offices to find that only 1 system, an ancient cattle brand license PC running DOS reset itself to 1900 (I worked in agriculture) so it wouldn't issue licenses. They re-hired the retired programmer to redo the program for thousands! They shelved it 2 years later.

My other offices I supported in various locations told me they wouldn't give me keys / alarm access to their building, so I had to phone them on the 2nd - no problems.

I got an extra week off, so I thought that was cool.

I got a Commodore Vic-20 for a high school grad present, then gave that to my bro and bought a Commodore 64, then in '86 decided Computers were the career for me and in '88 got a diploma from college.

I assembled my own 286...before the internet there was BBS's you dialed into for your...er...pictures of vistas.

Then leapt up to the 486/33mhz, and Frankensteined it to 99mhz and on and on I went...
