Mayweather v McGregor Boxing Match [SETTLED]
Finally, we have a fight! After being dissected for over a year, the Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor superfight is now official. The boxing match will take place on August 26 in Las Vegas at the T-Mobile Arena with the fighters competing at 154 pounds with 10-ounce gloves. The buildup to the fight should be a complete and total circus, but ludicrousness aside, it could be the most lucrative fight in combat sports history.
After Conor McGregor's win at UFC 205 over Eddie Alvarez in November, speculation for the mega-fight picked up again, causing social media and sports talk shows to blow up, which resulted in online sportsbook Bovada setting odds for the fight. Unsurprisingly, Floyd Mayweather originally opened as a HUGE favorite, coming in at -2250, with McGregor coming back at +950. On the day the fight became official, Mayweather’s odds were down to -800 with McGregor coming back at +500. Odds continue to move for the bout as the two fighters continue to trade insults through the media.
The interest for the fight is clearly there, but many viewed the likelihood of this fantasy fight to be more fiction than reality. “This fight is a long shot to happen, in my opinion, and McGregor is a bigger long shot if it does happen,” Bovada sportsbook manager Kevin Bradley said after odds for the fight initially opened. “Floyd has never really been hit his entire career against the baddest professional boxers in the world, so Conor will have to shock the world to even lay some leather on Mayweather.”
Early analysis from boxing pundits is that Mayweather will absolutely dust McGregor, which is a fair assessment considering McGregor has zero pro boxing experience. For what it’s worth, and it’s not very much, McGregor was an all-Ireland boxing champion during his youth.
Mayweather would bring a perfect 49-0 pro boxing record into the fight. He’s made a living off of his defensive, counterpunching style of boxing, and given McGregor’s lack of experience with bigger gloves, he’d likely have trouble landing significant strikes on Money Mayweather.
If you are looking to cash in on McGregor, however, he does have a number of factors working to his advantage. He’s younger, bigger and has incredible punching power and accuracy. A quick scan of his hit list in the UFC shows he’s put down men who’ve never been KO’d or even dropped before and an argument can be made that he has the best hands in the history of MMA. Another factor to consider is that Mayweather hasn’t fought since September 2015, which will make it 714 days between fights, so there’s no way of knowing how the prolonged layoff might affect the 40-year-old.

I'm pulling for Conor but I put my money on Floyd... except a couple bucks on a first round win by McGregor because that's my dream.

floyd on points or conor by ko... which won't happen because I doubt he'll be able to land anything hard enough

Like most I would like to see Conor knock the crap out of Floyd, only because I think Mayweather is a jackass.
People may disagree, but I think he gave Ortiz a cheap shot in their fight for the win.
Ya he's a good technical boxer and will probably try to outlast Conor for the win on points...could be a snoozefest.

Mayweather, McGregor to fight in 8-ounce gloves; ‘The Notorious’ ‘very pleased’
By Douglas Ernst - The Washington Times
Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor were given an 8-ounce gift by the Nevada State Athletic Commission on Wednesday — gloves.
The Aug. 26 boxing match between Floyd “Money” Mayweather and “The Notorious” Conor McGregor at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas became even more exciting for fans with a unanimous vote by NSAC.
Officials agreed to a one-time exception to let Mayweather and the reigning UFC lightweight champion champion duke it out in 8-ounce gloves for their 154-pound bout, a weight where fights are normally contested in 10-ounce gloves.
“I am very pleased with the Nevada State Athletic Commission’s handling of my next bout today,” McGregor said on his official Instagram account. “Fair play was kept all the way through … This was handled very well and very fairly by the NSAC. I am very pleased and respect the Commissions ruling on this. 10 days until fight time.”
The decision comes two weeks after Mayweather issued the 8-ounce challenge on his Instagram account Aug. 1. Both fighters filed a request shortly afterward asking that the rule requiring them to use 10-ounce gloves be waived in this case.
Mayweather adviser Leonard Ellerbe told ESPN after the announcement that “Floyd wanted Conor to be as comfortable as possible, so there wouldn’t be any excuses.”
Mr. McGregor is considered one of the best punchers in the UFC, but he is accustomed to using that sport’s 4-ounce gloves. Heavier gloves tend to muffle the impact of punches and, for a man used to the smaller MMA gloves, they can also limit his power by slowing his hands and disrupting his timing.
“Conor has vowed he’ll knock out Floyd in four rounds. He recently corrected that and said if the commission approved 8-ounce gloves, he doesn’t give Floyd two rounds,” Mr. Ellerbe told the network. “I have no reason to believe he’s not feeling very confident, and I want him to continue to have that confident attitude.”

I bet a whack on Conor TKO'ing Loudmouth. Mayweather will quit the fight citing some technical problem and no one will be satisfied. This generates the rematch..

Dropping down to the 8 ounce gloves is definitely a help to Conor.
