Is the United States of America a republic or a democracy? And the United States is therefore also a constitutional republic. Indeed, the United States might be labeled a constitutional federal representative democracy. But where one word is used, with all the oversimplification that this necessary entails, “democracy” and “republic” both work.
You don't even elect your PM, Monk.
I wanted to be a Monk, but I never got the chants.

It's a republic. A federal constitutional republic. We elect our Representatives and Senators democratically, as well as our local and state officials, but that's where the democratic nature of our system ends. History teaches that a true democracy can not exist for very long, and the founding fathers of this nation knew that. That's why they set the system of government up the way they did. They specifically avoided setting up a true democracy. They also warned against allowing the system of government to devolve into a socialist state, and further, a tyranny. If you want to hear more about it, we'd be more than happy to talk about it.

Nope. We might become an empire, but there will be no emperor.
