But it does have nuclear waste, and that has to be dealt with, with extraordinary care. I'm not saying that nuclear isn't a viable option, but it absolutely is not perfect. Fission does have its byproducts, and they are fairly dangerous. I refer you back to the article about the inadequate storage at the Bikini Atoll. Similar byproducts on a smaller scale are produced by nuclear reactions to produce energy.

Granted, but nuclear power is A LOT safer than it's portrayed as being, usually by environmentalists. And while the waste can be an issue, it seems like Earth's lifeless moon would be a great repository for nuclear waste, and with the cost of space flight coming down thanks to the likes of SpaceX, I'm sure it would become economical as well.
