That's sweet.
We've been discussing at work: If you started training now, what sport do you think you could make it into the Olympics in the soonest? I have to think Curling, at least for the Winter Games. In fairness though, it's way harder than it looks landing the stone where you want it...
The Simpsons Did It strikes again
We're going to end up with the government whisking Matt Groening away to some secret CIA location to study his future predictions one of these days.

IOC: Russia is banned from competing in the 2018 Winter Olympiad
Good thing the whole non-Russian Russian men's hockey team got exempted and allowed to play
Why does Drudge hate the Olympics so much? Whats that fuckers problem?
Question and it's an old school one about the Olympics in general. Hockey players, the Dream Team basketball players...any sport that uses players from a professional team.
Aren't the Olympics supposed to be about athletes that haven't reached or been paid on the pro level? It seems so unfair to me and this is coming from a guy who has watched handfuls of NHL players play on his Canadian teams.
Something about allowing pro's from any sport makes it feel tainted in my opinion.
It used to be that the West honored the 'amateur only' rule for the Olympics. But the argument was made that the Russians and the former Warsaw Pact type countries weren't following those same rules. Not exactly who petitioned the IOC to open it up to pros worldwide, but the 1992 Dream Team in basketball was the first time I remember the pros from the United States being involved.
Yeah the Russian hockey program was so different than our system. They had (and still do) people that played on the national team as sort of a life time job slot, and they drew from that pool throughout the 70's on. We started populating our teams with pros in answer to their wonky, if not dishonest sporting system.
Not to go over old ground...but how the hell does Russia get to be in the Olympics after being banned from the games? I would drug test every one of those hockey players right down to cold medicines if I was the IOC.
