I've been reading a bunch of stuff online that's been saying that the Epiphone Les Pauls are as good or, in some cases, even better than Gibson's Les Pauls are nowadays. I know that Gibson's in dire straits right now. What do you (fellow guitar playing) guys think?

Well, I bought an Epiphone Casino last may and am pleased with it. It did require a setup, and I had to try about 3 or 4 of them before I found one that felt "right". I think with Gibsons, when I try them out, they all seem to feel much the same - that is to say, pretty great. But the Gibson equivalent to my Casino is about 3 grand, and I paid only $800. Is the Gibson nearly 4x better? I didn't think so.

Gibson is in trouble financially right now, and a loan is coming due. I also know a music store is selling "Make Gibson Great Again" hats fashioned like you-know-who's.

If you are considering a Les Paul and you want to pay Gibson money, there are plenty of manufacturers who make as-good-if-not-better ones... Like the Godin Summit Classic.

Best thing is to try them out and see.

My newest 2 guitars (both bought for me by my mother) are a 2017 Gibson es-335 studio that's very nice, and a 2016 fender telecaster professional that I'm in love with. It's the best guitar I own
