Nightcrawler. Really enjoyed this, was a weird/creepy character that Jake Gyllenhaal played but he played it so well. Seen him in 3 films now and hes been impressive, three very different roles too. (No one of the other films wasnt broke back mountain, it was Prisoners and Source Code).

I give this a 7.5/8

Boseman gives a great performance. The movie jumps back and forth showcasing various times in James Brown's life. They lightly skim over his abuse and drug problems, focusing more on the music and how he pioneered the way some black artists got paid. I'm somewhat of a student of this era in music (cuz I love me some real R&B and funk baby) and there's a good scene where he explains that people will copy him, everyone will take a little bit of his sound and adopt it as their own.

The film reminded me of The Doors with Val Kilmer. A great lead actor channeling the artist and good cinematography portraying the times... but ultimately nothing new is disclosed. I would call this James Brown-Lite :)

Another Earth

http://i.imgur.com/8FhFEzx.jpg

The lead actress was good. Slow, meandering, depressing story of a gifted high school student who gets accepted at MIT. On her way home from a party she gets distracted and hits another car, killing a mother and her young son. She goes to prison for four years, gets out and starts hanging around with the widowed husband of the family she killed. He's a bit dozy from the accident so he doesn't realize the girl is the one who toasted his wife and son.

and oh yeah...the reason she was originally distracted and had the accident was because ANOTHER EARTH appeared in the sky and was an exact duplicate of our planet! Too bad they only spent 10 seconds on that aspect of the plot...

not recommended but loved the lead actress

Say what you want about Moore, I checked some of his statements and they are facts...

What I liked was that there were no gratuitous shots of the towers, only street level reactions and sounds for a short time at the beginning. More importantly, how the film showed the direction/actions of the response by the government after the tragedy.

The synopsis sounds so ghey and trivial, yet the reviews are very good for this one

A young and talented drummer attending a prestigious music academy finds himself under the wing of the most respected professor at the school, one who does not hold back on abuse towards his students. The two form an odd relationship as the student tries to achieve greatness, and the professor tries to stop him.

Below, one of the real life heroes Pitt's character was based on.

This guy in a nutshell: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lafayette_G._Pool

Over 1,000 kills

250 German prisoners of war taken

12 confirmed tank kills

258 total armored vehicle and self-propelled gun kills

All of which took place in a combat career that covered only 81 days....Pool lost a leg, went back to the states and opened a gas station/garage and then reenlisted for the Korean War...

I read that Kyle claimed he hit Ventura. Ventura denies anything happened and they could find no proof physically that Ventura was touched. (Kyle was something like 6'2'', 220 lbs) Also Kyle claimed the altercation happened on a few different days/times.

Just found it really odd that he would say he punched a fairly visible celebrity, and the celeb denies it. You'd think the person hit would agree and sue for assault...Ventura won the initial case and now is going after his estate for damages.

Base on the true story of NY cop Ralph Sarchie. He encountered a case of demonic possession and then eventually quit the force, become a hardcore Catholic and started investigating other cases of possession. Too bad they wrote a completely fictional story rather than some of the incidents he documented in his book.

Some bland writing and performances considering the subject material, with the exception of Sean Harris ( Micheletto from The Borgias )

I saw this in the theater back when it came out in '12. I think I said that it would've been better without the "Bourne" attachment. It's not a bad flick, it just suffers from my expectations. I like Renner, and it would be cool if they worked him in the next installment, if even just a quick over and done with cameo-ish subplot. We'll see what the powers that be making the next Matt Damon Bourne flick decide.

There was no conspiracy. The government was just plain wrong on this one and the parties involved on the government's end should have been crucified for it. Even Congress thought so. If ever there was a case that anyone, including FBD, had a right to cry foul on, it's this one.

Oh? :-s

Were you there in his apartment the day that he died? He had won the SOPA case and the DA had just offered a deal for 3-6 months rather than 35 years. His girlfriend said he was in the midst of fighting the other bill (cyber terrorist act) and was looking forward to fighting that in light of the results of the SOPA decision. He also didn't leave a suicide note...conjecture of course but this is a guy who constantly wrote in blogs and online journals...because he hated most people in person

His parents and his g/f have both made veiled comments about how the government killed him, then later reworded and changed their statements to a more broad definition saying that the government was responsible because it put him through 1000 miles of hell and cost him millions over the MIT online bookstore allegations/case. I found it odd that they would initially say the government killed him, then change that to be an oblique reference to cause of his suicide :-k

I think that through the various court cases and actions he was gaining ground both legally and in the minds of the people...and the gov felt threatened that he made traction.

This installment however was great in terms of scope and effects. I've seen a lot of dystopian stories where the rebels rise up against the evil empire/corporation/government. This one gave a real sense of people fighting for a cause.

Jennifer Lawrence demonstrated why she's considered a good actress, although in this role she somehow always looks pudgy and overfed  Maybe it's the lack of make up..

the first book could have been the screenplay for the movie  little or no variation from the scenes or sentences spoken

Unlawful Killing

Documentary about the deaths of Princess Diana and Dodi Fayed.

The film maker does not like the royal family, I can see why this got limited release. He claims Prince Philip is a Nazi and the rest of the Windsor family are card carrying white power bigots.

There is too much evidence to suggest an accident, or that the driver Henri Paul was too drunk to drive. (he had 2 drinks that night).

Coupled with the facts it took a whopping one hour and 43 minutes to get Diana from the crash scene to hospital, her note prior to the accident where she writes about being worried that her husband will stage a brake failure accident causing head trauma, the two French doctors that didn't go the the inquest. There's a lot there to suggest a cover up...

That had to be about the most non-ghey movie about ghey people that I've seen. It's like the director de-gayed the whole show to ensure that it wouldn't offend certain members of the public

Interesting and heart warming in bits, but I didn't find it as good/cheer worthy as critics and other movie watchers said.

Pretty much told the facts...some gay people raised money for some coalminers that were on strike for a year...1984-1985. The bigger story in the world at that time was the new AIDS epidemic and how it touched a few of the characters that were portrayed in the movie.

And how the gay people chose Hugh's village to visit

It's confusing tho....are the original Spider-man films not included in the Marvel movies universe because they were sold off by Marvel before recently reacquiring them? Or do they count as Marvel films because Spider-man is a member of the Marvel comic book universe?

I'd consider them part of the MCU. X-men and FF, too.

Okay, this is based strictly off the films I have seen (for example, I haven't seen ANY of the X-Men movies, so they aren't on the list):

The Avengers

Iron Man

Spider-man

Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Iron Man 2

Spider-man 2

The Punisher (2004)

Iron Man 3

Captain America: The First Avenger

The Incredible Hulk

Thor: The Dark World

Thor

Fantastic Four

Spider-man 3

Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer

The Amazing Spider-man

Daredevil

Ghost Rider

Some of these I could move up or down a space or two as it's still hard to decide on some of them, because they were pretty equal to me. And this is based of course on my personal preference and opinion.

Spend a night watching this and another movie called The Internet's Own Boy and I bet you never look at your PC the same way again.

As I was watching Citizenfour, I kept thinking about the Watergate Scandal for some reason. During Watergate, most people focused on the fact the Nixon lied about the coverup...rather than the original crimes of info gathering about the Democrats.

Snowden mentions something similar when he's talking about the steps they'll take releasing the information. The moment when the government will make the story about him, not the actions they're committing.

ffs I just read the Wiki entry on Ed Snowden and he was right. Claims saying he was a low level employee at best, how he lied about his pc background, how he never finished a course at a university...funny, the guy had access to some pretty high level stuff in the NSA and the documents themselves are the proof....well done for a 'non gifted' system admin
