Well this sucks, got up this morning to do the 1.5 hour drive back to the island to work. Left at 7AM, turns out at 7:10 they suspended boats for the morning due to high winds/lake conditions. So I'm currently sitting in the parking lot because they are going to "reevaluate conditions" at 11AM. At that point I will either get to work or find out if I should continue waiting. I almost wish they would just cancel the whoole day so I can just drive back home.

The downside is I've been working until 7pm (12 hour shifts) the last couple weeks trying to sock some money away for winter, It is tough to work after dark because We've shut down most properties for the winter which means all the street lights are off. On the island far away from city lights it gets pretty dark quick.

Plus my Roku doubles as a media player, I have an external HDD plugged into it with all the movies I've downloaded back in the olden days. I can watch some of those things through my Tivo, but the apps on the Tivo are way outdated and the interface on the Roku is so much better.

Thinking of working a few extra days the last 2 hitches of the year. Got my eye on a new guitar (that I dont at all need. I cant really even play the ones I have) and it's time to do some more home repairs. I've got to replace some areas of sub-flooring.

I'm working until at least Thanksgiving this year, Most everyone else is long gone as of Halloween. Trying to get some work projects finished that I know there won't be time for in the spring. Including replacing areas of subfloor then going over the entire area with additional 1/2 OSB to raise the floors up so the new flooring will match the tiled areas.

Once that's done I've a ton of work to do at home also. Actually broke down and hired a painter to do a couple grand worth of painting at my house.

I've been thinking that I should gently encourage my wife to get her Certified Director Charter. It's a very expensive program, but if you have a professional graduate degree like she does, you network, have some business sense, and start building your experience early on with small charity boards (which she's already been asked to do), getting onto the board of public companies later in life pays very well for a few days of work a year. Get onto 2-3 of those, retire early and live by the beach, just being flown home for board meetings a few times a year? Sounds fucking awesome. Am I trying to pimp my wife? Absolutely. Am I ashamed? There are so many god damn Amazon trucks driving around my town that it looks like I live in an episode of Black Mirror.

The problem was the way he listed the delivery of a package on Saturday. Now 99 times out of 100, no one is home when Amazon delivers, so the drivers put the package on the front steps and take a photo and we get the 'package has been delivered' message with the photo so we can see that it's indeed there. This happens all the time and we've had no problems with it yet. But this particular package on Saturday was listed as 'handed personally to a resident' which it wasn't, it was left on the front steps. The issue was, with the rash of porch pirates and packages being stolen, if the driver said that he personally gave the package to one of us but really didn't, and then that package got stolen, what kind of stink would we have to make to get it replaced or refunded if the driver said he personally gave it to us? It would make it look like we were trying to steal something ourselves claiming the delivery was stolen when the driver "allegedly" gave it to one of us.
