When my wife and I were dating I stopped on the side of the road, went out into a field and collected some wild flowers for her on V-day. (early spring that year, and I was broke as hell, lol) She loved them, and later in life she said she liked the flowers, but really appreciated the thought that I took the time to go get them myself, and was thinking of her.
Now, while all that is true, this exposes one of the differences between men and women. I didn't think of it that way. I was thinking more like "Hmm, I'm broke as can be, can't afford flowers, on the way to work, can't stop and get a card...Oh look, there's some flowers in that field there...Maybe if I wrap them up in some paper it'll be okay"

I agree - I really don't want hubby to buy me anything just to get me something and vise versa - so we usually just try to have some adult time or if you find something special then it's fine - but not just because it's v-day.
