That said, as I am working, I am rarely in "desirable" areas. On occasion, I do get time to travel to tourist areas, but I haven't been able (yet) to have my wife or child with me, so.....

Same with me Kev. Paper mill towns aren't scenic and usually smell funky. And towns with power plants don't always have much going for them other than they are near a river or large body of water.
Having said that, I've been to some cool, off the beaten path places that I would never have seen if not for my job.
Canton, NC is where I work the most. It's a tiny paper mill town in the Blue Ridge mountains just west of Asheville, NC. It's a beautiful area. The scenery is magnificent and I've always loved the people of the area.

Don't get me wrong, I have a good life, very good, but I worked hard for it, and no way in hell I could do it without my wife staying home and taking care of things while I'm gone. I do wish I was able to bring them (wife and daughter) along with me on more trips, but, it is what it is.

Traveling isn't always glamorous, no matter where you go. And if you don't have the people you love with you, it gets old fast.

My son is up in Minnesota working and has been there for over a month. He misses his wife and kids and I miss him. I'm glad he has a job but I know how it is to be in a strange place that's nothing like home.

I'm looking at the next few weeks away from home. It will be good to be making $$$, and I'll be able to be with my husband at night, but there's no place like home.
