(never had a problem, never have been pulled over while under the influence...but its not really something I can have as a point of pride, saying I've driven at all different kinds of high probably at least 3 to 4 thousand times in my lifetime...I'm just brutally honest with you guys, you know how I spout off here...which sometimes I feel bad about, because I'm really a very laid back person to hang out with :lol:)

I don't estimate or paint.

We have 5 techs (including myself), 2 apprentices, 4 painters doing the work. Plus 4 porters and 3 office staff (2 estimators, 1 manager/estimator)

That 23 cars was just today, that's on top of the normal workload.
It's uncommon to have that many cars thrown at us this late in the week, typically most of the work gets passed out Mon-Wed, so we're getting it all back from the paint shop Thurs & Fri.

Well, all you can do is think positive at this point without knowing the full story

I've been through this before...our company gives no information until 'the day' and then expects miracles...

you are right about being positive but consider this.....let's say that we're going to fold two buildings into a new building. I have roughly 2000 pallets here, various and multiple products on each. The other building has about 1/6th of that many pallets and a whole bunch of production equipment.

New warehouse space will have no racking....we can move 24 pallets per trailer. So it's the old Chinese sliding squares puzzle with one open space...except for us we don't have that open space.

We pile up 3000 pallets on the floor at the new warehouse...then they have build racks one at a time in the same space. We can't stage 3000 pallets in trailers until the racks are put up again..


I'm not explaining this correctly....we have a lot a of crap but have to move that crap to take down the racks. The racks need to be put up at the new place before we can populate them.....the logistics won't work.

And we have to keep sending orders to clients during the process....we do 300 a day, various clients. Will be hard to pick multi item orders out of the back of 25 semi trailers...

Best we can tell, is that we had some wire holding up the newer tree we bought and the other day it was super windy and must have let the tree sway just enough, even with the wire holding it, to let the wire slide down to the ground on both sides of the tree. We figure she was doing some of her galloping around the yard and caught her par on the wire.

Yes they came yesterday, huge presentation in tow....

we're moving to a very nice building next spring...10 times better than the shit hole we currently work out of

unfortunately, 3 different buildings will all be under the same roof....sales, CSR's, production areas, fulfillment...and all warehouse entities


also, the commute is about 2 hours one way...it's a major thoroughfare I hear about on the radio every day being backed up, accidents etc.


Just moving our building will take about 2 weeks, lots of backbreaking labor and logistics problems.....then we have to dissect and rearrange at the new place. It will be a shitshow...they'll expect us to service clients during the move...trying to do things out of two buildings....

I've worked in this type of environment before, guys like me end up doing a whole bunch of extra work for other departments and I hated it...


Sooooo...it will be a big birthday for me halfway through March...coincidentally that's when we start moving our crap. I may put in my notice before all of the fun starts. I don't have any money saved or a new job to go to.....so it's a big decision for me. I have 5 months to decide....

Yes they came yesterday, huge presentation in tow....

we're moving to a very nice building next spring...10 times better than the shit hole we currently work out of

unfortunately, 3 different buildings will all be under the same roof....sales, CSR's, production areas, fulfillment...and all warehouse entities


also, the commute is about 2 hours one way...it's a major thoroughfare I hear about on the radio every day being backed up, accidents etc.


Just moving our building will take about 2 weeks, lots of backbreaking labor and logistics problems.....then we have to dissect and rearrange at the new place. It will be a shitshow...they'll expect us to service clients during the move...trying to do things out of two buildings....

I've worked in this type of environment before, guys like me end up doing a whole bunch of extra work for other departments and I hated it...


Sooooo...it will be a big birthday for me halfway through March...coincidentally that's when we start moving our crap. I may put in my notice before all of the fun starts. I don't have any money saved or a new job to go to.....so it's a big decision for me. I have 5 months to decide....

How far away is the new building distance-wise? Is it two hours away or is it that far only because of traffic? Like for me, my standard drive into work is about 30 minutes because of the time of day, but going home with traffic, it can be anywhere from 40 to 90 minutes, all depending.

And at least it isn't as bad as you thought it could be, but it does sound like you have some decisions to make, but at least you don't have to make them right away.

that's the only thing that will make me think about quitting.....and the fact that a metric fuckton of management and about 100 more sets of eyes will be on us, because the blueprint is designed like a large open area, no walls between departments...

The worst commutes I ever had was when I worked in south Denver. It was about the same distance away from home that I am now, but during the summer, I used to leave for home at the same time the Rockies afternoon weekday games would end. The commute took me right past Coors Field. Talk about a slow go :wha:

Accidents and weather are wild cards, you never know when they will pop up and you never know how bad they will fuck up traffic, but they can be horrible.

it's too bad for me because I get on the literal western start of the thoroughfare and take it all the way east....I live in the far SW and new place is far SE...


it's easy in terms of not many merges, cross streets etc.....but it has the rep of the one the most backed up roads daily in the city because of volume/immigrants/bad drivers

I'm sure there will be lots of flexibility in terms of hours....my current shift is 9am to 5:30 pm, so any change would be traumatic to me...especially getting up at Lance's rooster-piss time :lol:

Hal, if it wasn't for your domestic situation, I'd tell you to move down here. My company is hiring a logistics person.
My commute, if I go to office, is 75 miles one way, across Houston. Usually takes 1.5 to 2 hours, but, I have to be there at 7 am, so I miss most traffic in the morning. Evenings can be a pita. Longest so fat was 3.5 hours. Of course, I rarely go to office. Lol. Right now, my drive time is 1 to 1.5 hours to where we put in 5 rigs. All back roads, no traffic, just the occasional wildlife, lol

this past Friday around 4:30 pm someone created 168 individual orders for a client of ours....hunting and fishing locations around Alberta. All of the order pickers went home, daily couriers had already picked up....and I told my manager NO 17 different ways, 4 phone calls.

He gets a 60 yr old woman from downtown and another CSR from a different location to come over....while me and the shipper pick and ship 168 orders.....stayed here until 7:30 Friday night and swore never again (it was another sales rep's mistake)

Yesterday morning what was I doing? Picking more orders for the same account....:x

I just keep leaving my normal job, which is finished goods inventory and forward ALL of the pissy emails to him (23 last count, various items) :lol: :lol: :lol:
