So Kev, how's this US-OPEC oil war fuckery affecting business down there? I hear that a lot of stuff financed in the last...well since the last great thieving in 08, is just predicated upon 90 a barrel oil and close to zero finance rates, so an aspect of this oil war is big player coming in and buying up all the little guys who shelled out the up front money who done went broke because of the price collapse. Sorry to hear Kev. Yeah our gas prices dropped steadily from about 1.22/liter to 88 cents/liter...there's about 4 liters in a gallon. Our oil companies are bracing here....but we're seeing other businesses tank first. All of our Sony stores shut down and all of our new Target stores closed. The Target stores just arrived last year....with a piss poor business model I might add....they would build one beside a Walmart or a Superstore....and those two chains are huge up here. Target's prices were also more expensive for the get-go..

Our city is based on oil and we've weathered a lot of recessions in the industry over the years....hopefully some fuckwit from the Middle East will start a rumor, or a skirmish and the threat will bring the demand up again..

It's the same over here in the North Sea - it's been getting more and more expensive to get the oil out of the seabed and with the oil prices dropping that far it's just becoming uneconomical. A few weeks back BP announced a lot of redundancies up north! One of my ex workmates left us to go offshore approx two years ago now........ since then he's spent a grand total of 12 weeks actually working offshore and hasn't been away for over 4 months now! Scary stuff.

Well, I survived the first round of layoffs in my debt. Before today, we had 22 techs, including myself. 8 got laid off today. I was working on a rig in Brazoria, TX this afternoon when my boss called me and told me to pack my shit, that I'll be gone from home for an indefinite time. My boss is the tech dept manager. So, now I'm in Abilene, TX. Tomorrow I go to Canadian, TX for a couple days, then down to Midland/ Odessa for who knows how long.

Better to be busy than not I guess.

Oh I would be sad for them too, except for the fact that they were all going to get terminated with cause (stealing) very soon anyway. These guys were all lieing about their work time. Not a little bit either. In several cases, as much as 40 hours a week, ie: turned in time sheet for 12th, but only worked 80. I dunno what they were thinking. They knew we had GPS trackers/ monitors in our trucks.
