Well i did go home but i wish i hadnt :(

Amazon package waiting for me, 8gb ram stick to upgrade my laptop to 16gb (bought the exact same stick as whats in it, mobo can run 32gb so should be fine). Popped off the laptop rear cover and fitted the new stick in the spare ram slot, put cover back on, popped the battery back in and pressed the power button - display backlight came on but no actual display :wha: volume was up and i could hear it booting into windows but not getting a picture. Took it apart again and took out the new stick and tried again, same result :( Wasnt wearing an antistatic bracelet (never had an issue with ram swaps previously), hope i havent killed it :| Thankfully when i bought it i paid extra for a better warranty package so should be ok if i have fried something....... hopefully wont come to that though. After that i went to fire up my desktop for the first time in months and got no display on that at all :rofl: The monitor power light is on but blank screen....... unbeefuckinleevable!


Had a quick google and someone else had a similar laptop issue and removing the cmos battery for 10 mins fixed it so will try that later. Any ideas?

Mine is waaaaaay suckier :mrgreen: Laptop still not working (see my post in tech for details) so i'm using my old POS, coal-driven Toshiba cheapo.......... at least it works i suppose :lol: Think my desktop monitor is fucked too, checked the connections on that then switched on the desktop, boot screen came up then i heard a low crackling noise from the monitor and the screen went black :shakehead: Monitor power light still green (lights up green when it's getting a signal from the PC, amber when the PC is switched off) but that's about it. Can't be arsed trying much else tonight tbh, been a fucking long day at work! I always planned to do nothing today (knew it would be a long weekend plus weather forecast for today was crap - raining atm). Still the same, backlit screen but nothing showing (tried both memory sticks in either ports). Popped out the HD and it seems fine, loaded up in my dock ok anyway. Looks like i'll have to go get in touch with them........ and i can't find the original packaging, think i threw it out a couple of months back :facepalm: Either that or i put it in the shed so will go have a quick look in there.

Both of my ssds are 256gb so generally have plenty space for the basics :) Think i have around 40gb of music and maybe a couple gigs pics so i just keep that stuff on the ssd too. I have a 2tb drive in my desktop for backup/storage/films etc but i find it easier just to use the hd dock :thumbsup: I also have a 1tb usb powered external which is/was handy for watching downloaded films through the tv :)
