Actualy warm water is not a bad idea.. The theory behind it is if it is the same temp as your body it will not be recognized as an invader..

what are you up to today Lance? Day of leisure I hope.

Teh One Who Knocks
06-26-2011, 02:15 PM
More than likely....I have to do laundry and I'm not sure that I feel like going out today. Half thought about the flea market, but it's supposed to be sunny and 93° today. Not a good day to be outside

RBP
06-26-2011, 02:19 PM
Does your apartment have in-unit laundry or do you have to take it somewhere? For some reason going to the basement of the building for laundry always seemed like a chore to me. Well I guess laundry is a chore by definition but you know what I mean.

Teh One Who Knocks
06-26-2011, 02:20 PM
I have a full-size washer and dryer right in my apartment

That was the deciding factor in choosing this complex when I moved a few years ago. It's soooooo nice and convenient :)

RBP
06-26-2011, 02:30 PM
That's awesome. It makes a huge difference!

Teh One Who Knocks
06-26-2011, 02:35 PM
Yup, it really does...just the convenience alone is a big plus.

At my last apartment, I had to go outside, to the other side of the building, and then up one floor. And there was only one washer and one dryer to share between 12 apartments :wha:

RBP
06-26-2011, 02:40 PM
wow, that sucks. I'd probably go to a laundry mat at that point.

Teh One Who Knocks
06-26-2011, 02:42 PM
It was a pain in the ass, but most of the time I got lucky when I wanted to do laundry there. I just hate having to lug laundry out to go go do it.

Another good thing about having them right in my apartment....I don't have to horde quarters for laundry day

06-26-2011, 02:52 PM

I suppose its just because its 'our' major :-k Plus they tend to fall on their asses more often on grass  Unfortunately my favourite part of the game seems to be dying out, the old serve-volley! Teh One Who Knocks

First thing that pops into my head is popcorn....kinda hard to fuck up popcorn in the microwave and it almost always comes out perfect.

Jezter
06-28-2011, 03:38 PM
Well yea, popcorn is the obvious choice as it really is the best microwave food. Well, "food". No-one eats it for lunch or dinner... I hope atleast. More like a treat.
Out of food things, I'll have to go with porridge. It is pretty much the same as boiled, maybe not quite as smooth and tasty, but close enough to get my approval.

It is a lot faster than in the oven and it is kinda easy to overcook them, so you just have to be careful. I usually rotate them a few times during cooking and get them wet with water to make sure they don't dry out.

Hal-9000
06-28-2011, 10:07 PM
You should see the UK version...she was smoking in the first couple of seasons

The UK ghost Annie is more of a perky helper, than a whiner about her situation. She's constantly making teas and biscuits for everyone, yet she can't drink or eat any of it

Teh One Who Knocks
06-28-2011, 10:08 PM
Sally grows in her role as the series progresses ;)

Hal-9000
06-28-2011, 10:17 PM
a good example of how the UK version handled a storyline compared to the US version

I would assume that you've watched season 1, episode 7 for the US version by now? Where the vampire befriends the boy across the street?

When the boy across the street befriends Mitchell (UK vampire), Mitchell lends him his Laural and Hardy DVD's.The murder DVD is different because
in the UK version, vampires can't be seen in mirrors, photos or video. So we see a guy with a bondage leash around his neck get killed by an invisible vampire chick.
Same scenario as the US version, it was designed to titillate the vampire watching...

The mother sees the DVD with her son, and they witness a naked guy with a woody rolling around on a bed before he's mysteriously killed. The mom inspires the whole neighborhood to vandalize Mitchell's house, spray painting words like 'peedo' and child molester on their place.Mitchell has just had a party before this episode and invited the whole neighborhood as a get acquainted tactic. It got quite serious and took a couple of episodes to resolve.

Teh One Who Knocks
06-28-2011, 10:22 PM
That's somewhat similar to the US version, at least the start of it, then it changes  I'm actually glad that they didn't cover the story lines verbatim in the US version. I know you said the production value is better in the US version, I haven't seen the UK version.

And I've finished the whole series....and I'm sad that it's over until next year now :sad2:

Hal-9000
06-28-2011, 10:27 PM
It's hit and miss with the plots...they either play it quite close or change it entirely  which I like too...

UK werewolves dragged around chickens on strings (which was hilarious the first couple of times) the US version used rump roasts..that sort of change really didn't affect the series.

For example the werewolf's girlfriend from the hospital is played by a little troll in the UK version (worse casting EVER )...in the US version she's very hot and also believable in her role as a nurse.

Teh One Who Knocks
06-28-2011, 10:30 PM
Yeah, Nora is smoking hot :homer:

I like the US cast....of course I'm not conflicted because I haven't watched the UK version. I think the cast plays their parts well.

Hal-9000
06-28-2011, 10:34 PM
I've summarized it as follows:

UK version - more story driven, lack of effects but still hard hitting when folks died or things happened.
US version - better budget, darker for the most part (less humor) and has the benefit of working/taking from the original.

The US actors are well cast IMO, yet I like the UK versions of each role better.

Teh One Who Knocks
06-28-2011, 10:36 PM
Can the vampires in the UK version go out during the day? That seems to be a bit odd when it comes to vampire lore :-k

Hal-9000
06-28-2011, 10:39 PM
Yeah they can without a problem...he said something about being weakened.

I liked that part of the lore actually. The mirror thing and having to be invited in seems cheesy to me....as well as garlic

I like vamps that go out in the day, don't have to be invited in, are not affected by crosses and don't have allergies to food items

Hal-9000
06-28-2011, 10:41 PM

I kinda like the having to be invited thing, but I agree about the mirror thing, that's just cheesey

I'm the opposite...a courtesy stops a force of nature from walking over a threshold?

The UK version used the no photo thing in a good, tense plot....the vampire got booked at a police station (fingerprints, mugshot...)....worked well there.
